Escaping a Dark Future âŠ
Giriraj Swami: On Srila Prabhupadaâs morning walk on November 16, 1975, I told him about a recent interview with a scientist who had said, âWe donât know where the ingredients came from, but weâre sure that thereâs âŠâ
âThen why do you talk nonsense?â Prabhupada challenged the scientist. âYou do not know. Then what is the use of talking nonsense? You do not know from where these ingredients have come. Our answer isâKrishna revealsâaham sarvasya prabhavo mattah sarvam pravartate: âThe ingredients come from Me.ââ
âWhen the reporter asked the scientist where the things come from, he said he doesnât know, but heâs sure that he doesnât âŠâ
âStill, he is scientist,â Prabhupada said sarcastically. âHe doesnât know. Still, he is scientist. Just see the contradiction. And we have to hear from himâthe unfortunate position. We say, âGo for scientific knowledge to a person who knows, who has seen.â And this rascal says, âI do not know; still, I am scientist.â Then what he replied?â
âHe doesnât know, but heâs sure that they donât need God to explain it.â
âThat he knowsâhow to deny God. That he is expert. And the newspaper reporter accepted this?â
âNo. He didnât express his point of view, but you could see he wasnât satisfied. Then he asked the scientist about the future.â
âThe future is darkness,â Prabhupada said, âbecause these are scientists. He doesnât know; still, he is scientist. The future is darkness, because a person who doesnât know has become leader. Andha yathandhair upaniyamana. If a blind man becomes the leader of other blind men ⊠So, the reporter was not satisfied?â
âNo,â I answered. âThen he asked the scientist about the future. And the scientist said the population will go on increasing more and more, and there wonât be enough food, so everyone will starve.â
âThen what your scientific knowledge will help?â Prabhupada again challenged the scientist.
âThen the reporter asked him what his personal plans were for the future. So he said he likes one girl and wants to get married, and thatâs all.â
âIncrease the population,â Brahmananda joked, and the devotees laughed.
Then Prabhupada gave the final, perfect conclusion: âOur plan is the best: before meeting such catastrophes, go back home, back to Godhead.â
