In March 2007, the CIS GBC supported an initiative of a group of Russian devotees, whose proposal was to establish a spiritual embassy for ISKCON CIS communities in Sridham Mayapur.
The concept of spiritual embassies in Mayapur is unique. Originating in the 1990’s, it was implemented in the master plan of Mayapur by Harikesa Swami. With the appearance of the Rising Moon Temple of Lord Caitanya (Mayapur Chandrodoy Mandir), Sridham Mayapur would become a spiritual capital of the world, accommodating numerous representatives from various nations. It was for the purpose of supporting the needs of the visitors, that this idea of spiritual embassies was created.
The Russian Center in Mayapur (The Spiritual Embassy of ISKCON CIS countries in Sridham Mayapur) has been established to create and sustain various facilities and services for ISKCON devotees from the former Soviet Union federation, visiting or living, in Mayapur Dham and India in general.
In late December 2007, the Mayapur Administrative Council (MAC) established the Russian Center in Mayapur. According to its statement, the Center will be developed under the guidance of the CIS GBC and MAC, with cooperation from various departments and projects in Mayapur and India. Planning of the project includes the construction of a complex, with an educational center, guesthouse, restaurant and hospice. There would also be an information center and a museum, showing the history of Krsna Consciousness in former Soviet Union. Besides that, the Center will organize parikramas and seminars.
The Center has launched its web-site: www.mayapur.ru, which is to be soon integrated with the official web site of ISKCON Mayapur: www.mayapur.com, and will present up-to-date information in the Russian language to the Russian community.
