Supernatural by written and performed Hari Kirtan Dasa and the Babajis.
Hari Kirtan grew up in Paddington, London, in the 1960s in a large and incredibly musical close knit Jamaican family. In 1978 he made his first visit to the temple in Soho Street and was immediately taken by the beauty of Radha London Isvara, the residing deities. He felt as if he’d returned home and had an instant attraction to and love for chanting the holy names of Krishna.
He moved into the ashram, shortly followed by his elder brother and then his mother (who were both duly initiated). Hari quickly threw himself into book distribution, headed by H.H. Shivarama Swami, travelling around the UK on travelling Sankirtan. However singing and music remained his greatest passion and Bhajan and Kirtan formed the favourite moments of his day!
As the years went by, Hari Kirtan spent time in India and various temples around the world, always combining his musical roots with the teachings of Srila Prabhupada. He preached all over South Africa in the 1980’s and coming from a Jamaican family was able to break down barriers among the various tribes. He spread the Holy Names to Africans and the general populace from Soweto to Durban
Fast forward many years and he has just recorded a successful album for Radha Krisna records and heads up a charity using music to help those suffering after a crisis. For the last 3 years he has also performed on the main stage at Bhaktivedanta Manor with his Band Babaji,to bring a fusion of traditional Kirtan with a Reggae flavour to the masses that attend the annual Janmastami festival.
He was appropriately named Hari Kirtan by his Guru, H.H. Gour Govinda Swami Maharaja, and he has lived up to the instruction implicit in his name ever since, by broadcasting the name of Hari far and wide. He released a video earlier this year of the chanting of the Maha mantra in the hills of Matheran which was well received by thousands on YouTube.
He has now released a thought provoking song inspired by the Bhagavad Gita with transcendental lyrics set to reggae beats, and through it hopes to awaken the curiosity of many a sleeping soul throughout the world!
