Madri dasi : On the eve of Durban’s 20th Annual Ratha Yatra Festival, the body of Bhaktin Sherita Debipersadh was found after being raped and shot dead-yet another victim of South African crime!!!
She was a stalwart daring sankirtan devotee who was a frequent winner of book and BTG marathons at Iskcon Pretoria. Sherita was from an extremly poor family background. However the compassion of her heart was her greatest wealth. She would celebrate her birthdays by hiring a hall and inviting homeless children and child prostitutes to a Krishna conscious program. Sherita would regularly spend her evenings collecting unsold bread from shops and loading that on a borrowed trolley after offering it. She would then drag the heavy trolley down the street and feed the homeless people.
Her sankirtan endeavours were very bold during marathon times. In the malls, parties and door to door her determination propelled her. We shall remember her enthuisiasm in kirtan with fondness. She would happily swing on the arm of devotees and guests. We pray that the devotee community at large would pray for her wellbeing.
