During the month of Kartik there is a home program initiative facilitated by Iskcon Bhakti Centre Gold Coast and organised by Gold Coast and Brisbane devotees. Devotees are visiting many homes and giving disourses, lamp offerings and Damodarastakam prayers followed by sumptuous prasadam.
In the Skanda Purana some of the benefits of offering lamps in Kartik are stated as:
‘When we offer a lamp during the month of Kartika, our sins of many thousands and millions of births disappear in half the blink of an eye.’
‘Even if there is no mantras, no pious deeds, and no purity, everything becomes perfect when a person offers a lamp during the month of Kartika.’
‘A person who during the month of Kartika offers a lamp to Lord Keshava has already performed all yajnas (sacrifice for the pleasure of the Lord) and bathing in all the holy rivers.’
