Opportunity: Trainee priest at the Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare Krishna Temple, Watford

Requirements:

-Must be able to attend morning services every day at 4.30am

-Willing to participate in services such as prayers, holding discourses for congregation,

-Should be able to explore innovative methods of promoting spiritual teachings to society such as through drama, dance, social media and music, etc.

-Willing to commit 2 years to the position

-Willing to travel.

-Articulate in speech, people orientated and a good communicator

– Must have good health

-Ability to live in a much regulated environment under discipline and authority

– This would entail living a lifestyle of complete celibacy, no gambling, completely vegetarian diet and no intoxication

– Also all trainee priests are expected to daily chant a minimum of 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna sound vibration as part of their daily spiritual practices

– Willing to live in a communal environment with other trainee priests

Prior requirements

-Must have spent a minimum of 3 months in a Krishna conscious temple living in a monastic setting

(This should have taken place within the last 2-3 years)

-Should have 1 years’ experience of chanting 16 rounds of the Hare Krishna mantra everyday

-Should have a minimum of 6 months experience of living a lifestyle of complete celibacy, no gambling, completely vegetarian diet and no intoxication

-Must be regularly reading Krishna conscious literature everyday

*Must have some scholastic understanding of the philosophy, preferably having done a course at one of our ISKCON temples on the level of a Bhaktin course.

Thus a having foundational understanding of:

Vaishnava Devotional practice

Vaishnava Theology and Philosophy

Vaishnava Culture

Being Bi-lingual and University educated is also very much desired

Stipend – £240 towards personal needs

*Food, accommodation, transport and all essential utilities provided by the temple

Service hours per week:

To complete a minimum of 35 hours of service per week over 6 days. They will have one day of rest each week and be required to do 6 hours of service on weekdays and 5 hours on Sundays. This may vary in certain circumstances.
