City Of Liverpool To Open Memorial Garden In Honor Of George Harrison.
Today, on what would have been George Harrison‘s 77th birthday, the city of Liverpool, England where the late guitarist was born and raised has announced plans for a memorial woodland garden to open in his honor.
To be named, the “George Harrison Woodland Walk,” the project is being overseen by the Liverpool City Council and the George Harrison Estate with the goal of opening in spring 2021.
The garden will exist on a 12-acre site where a mature woodland and meadow currently sits. The area will be specifically landscaped to make for an accessible combination of garden-meets-woodland setting with included artistic installations inspired by the life and lyrics Harrison. The longterm goal of the woodland is to eventually open a “Nature Classroom” where school children from across the region can spend time learning about nature and the environment.
Organizers are calling on artists, musicians, or anyone who might be interested in creating a sculpture or unique installation as part of the woodland to help celebrate Harrison’s life. Artistic expressions of interest must be submitted for consideration by April 15th.
“The Quiet Beatle,” as he was famously known by music fans around the world during The Beatles run of international success in the 1960s, would use his massive private garden on the grounds of his Friar Park home as his personal sanctuary away from the rock ‘n roll life.
