Getty Images labels this photo of the New Year’s Day feast on January 1, 1968 as:
“Devotees of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), better known as Hare Krishnas, eat together at their storefront temple, New York, 1968. Located at 26 Second Avenue (between East 1st and 2nd streets), it was the first Hare Krishna temple outside of India. (Photo by Steve Schapiro/Corbis via Getty Images)”
At this time, Prabhupada was on his first visit to the first ISKCON temple on the West Coast, in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco, California.
In this photo, Brahmananda Das is standing behind Michael Madhusudan Blumert and Hayagriva as they serve prasadam to the devotees and guests, and on porcelain plates no less.
