Grieving in Isolation during the Pandemic with Vaishnavas CARE
Grieving in Isolation during the Pandemic with Vaishnavas CAREIs it been a long time for you being alone and overpowered by various disempowering emotions during this time of Pandemic? If yes we would like to encourage you to join us for this panel discussion with a team of experts who can help you in many aspects. This conversation will be facilitated by Sangita Devi Dasi, Janaki Dasi, Kamala Radha Dasi and Ekavira Das.From ISKCON News about Vaisnava CARE.In 2000, two long-time friends and Godsisters, Sangita Devi Dasi and Jusaniya Devi Dasi, co-founded Vaisnavas C.A.R.E., Inc. (Counseling, Assistance, Resource, and Education for the Terminally-ill and Those in Need). Their vision was that in every town or village, when devotees are in the process of dying, there will be trained volunteers to assist with their end-of-life needs. Assistance might include chanting and reading to a patient, bringing prasadam, relieving the family caregiver so he or she can get a well-deserved break for an hour or so and many other useful tasks to assist the patient and family. Vaishnavas CARE volunteers attend LIVE seminars presented by Sangita or she also offers this course online as a distance learning course on her website at Vaishnavascare.org. Unfortunately, Jusaniya Dasi passed away several years ago so Sangita carried on the project alone with the help of her husband, Vamanadeva Das. In addition to being a Registered Nurse, Sangita became a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN) and has volunteered full-time with Vaisnavas C.A.R.E. as well as assisted His Holiness Giriraj Swami with the building of the Bhaktivedanta Hospice in Vrindavan, India. The Bhaktivedanta Hospice is a 40,000 square foot facility where local residents are cared for inpatient. Medic mobiles also travel to neighboring villages to care for the poorest terminally ill patients within their homes free of charge. They visit up to 200 patients per month.Eventually, Vaishnavas CARE hopes to have a "C.A.R.E. team" in every ISKCON community worldwide.Janaki devi dasi joined the St. Louis temple in 1981. She has been engaged in many services over the years including book distribution, teaching Sunday School, Child Protection Team member and board member of the NACPO. She has a master's in social work and is a licensed clinical social worker and clinical addiction specialist. She specializes in trauma work. She is also a certified instructor for the Right Use of Power.Kamala Radha dasi is a Vaishnavas CARE certified team member. She has assisted Sangita dasi and Vaishnavas CARE in training seminars, has assisted devotees formulating their final wishes, and even bringing devotees remains to their final resting place in the Holy Dhama. She serves currently as social media director and co-facilitating online grief support. Outside of her service with Vaishnavas CARE, she is a meditation instructor and is currently pursuing a career in End of Life care and Interfaith Chaplaincy.
