
Srila Prabhupada: There are different kinds of flesh eaters. If anyone eats fish, he eats all kinds of fleshes.Fish, yes. Fish is abominable according to Manu-samhita. Therefore, even you can eat the flesh of cow, but don’t eat fish. That is the stricture in the Manu-samhita. Because if you are eating dog’s flesh, then you are sinful in the matter of dog’s flesh only. But if you eat fish, then you become sinful of eating all kinds of flesh. These are the strictures.

Srila Prabhupada: The Japanese, they eat this seaweed. Yes. It is good for the fish-eaters, because it has got fishy taste, although it is vegetable. Those who are fish-eaters, even by smelling fish, fishy, they’ll increase their appetite. Yes. Habit is like that.

Jayadharma: Does that mean that the people that catch fish have to also become a fish?
Srila Prabhupada: Oh, yes. You will become fish. That they do not know, how the transmigration of the soul is going on. They cannot explain wherefrom the fishes are coming, wherefrom the trees are coming. Everything in darkness. And this civilization, dark civilization, is going on, in the name of civilization. They cannot explain what is death, what is next life. Sometimes they say, “It is nature,” but how nature is working, they do not know. The birds and beasts, they are also catching fish, and they are also catching. Where is the difference? What is the difference? They have got this nice human body, and they are acting like the birds and beasts. And they are kept in darkness. There is no enlightenment. This is the modern civilization.

Srila Prabhupada: So why in other temples they are allowed? No. God wants that these rascal may remain in darkness. They cannot understand Vaishnava . Let them remain in darkness. That God wants. God wants that “These so-called brahmanas who eat Jagannatha prasada with fish, let them remain in darkness, not to understand who is Vaisnava.”

Bali-mardana: According to Vedic culture, is seaweed edible?
Srila Prabhupada: I don’t find. Why they should eat seaweed?
Bali-mardana: In Asia, many people eat seaweed, certain types of plants that grow in the sea.
Srila Prabhupada: No, no.
Ramesvara: In America it is very popular.
Srila Prabhupada: That is all right, but why man should eat seaweed? There are so many vegetables.
Bali-mardana: If vegetables are not available.
Srila Prabhupada: Yes.

Brahmananda: They have farms, they call them sea farms, and they specially grow the seaweed for cultivation.
Srila Prabhupada: Krsna is very kind. If you want this kind of food, He’ll give you facility.
Tamala Krsna: But the Vedic culture, I don’t think they like this.
Srila Prabhupada: Vedic culture means krsna-prasada.
Tamala Krsna: Yes, You cannot offer this to Krsna, can you?
Srila Prabhupada: No.
