WSN June 2024 – World Sankirtan Newsletter

by Administrator
By Vijaya Das

In the month of June, among the Large Temples, Moscow had the highest increase at 220% for 6,029 book points. To avoid being drafted into the army, many sankirtan devotees have left Russia, but some heroes have stayed, to fight the greater battle against maya. Among the Medium Temples, Buenos Aires had the highest increase at 330% for 13,524 book points. Buenos Aires was also the only temple reporting in Argentina, raising their country to #4 in the world for June. We haven't seen them this high in the transcendental competition in a long time. Keep it up, Prabhus!

Sacred Sound

by Administrator
Hare KrishnaBy a Dasa

Kirtan is an uncomplicated and effective way of communing with God. The Padma Purana tells us, “Because the holy name and the ‘holy named’ are nondifferent, the name is fully complete, pure, and eternally liberated. Indeed, it is Krishna Himself.” Philosophically, this idea can be summarized as follows: matter and spirit are opposites. Thus, since in the material world, all things are relative, and part of that relativity manifests in a thing and its name being different, in the spiritual realm, the opposite must be true: a thing and its name are one. This is the na...

Defining the Divine, East and West

by Administrator
Hare KrishnaBy a Dasa

“The Bhagavad-gita teaches a pantheistic view of God,” he said, his confidence and years of learning clear from his authoritative tone. “The massive vishvarupa—Krishna’s universal form, which encompasses all material phenomena, including time—tells us much about God in the Gita.” His friend, another scholar of some renown, seemed to disagree. “The Gita goes beyond pantheism. It shows us how to perceive God in all things. The Tenth Chapter, especially, shows us how Krishna is the superlative exemplar in seventy categories, how He exists in the perceivable...

Krishna, Lord of Paradox

by Administrator
Hare KrishnaBy a Dasa

The Bhagavad-gita is one of the world’s perennial wisdom texts. Because it offers knowledge of the Absolute Truth, some of its texts can be difficult to understand. Few are as difficult as verses four and five of Chapter Nine: "By Me, in My unmanifested form, this entire universe is pervaded. All beings are in Me, but I am not in them. And yet everything that is created does not rest in Me. Behold My mystic opulence! Although I am the maintainer of all living entities and although I am everywhe...

Yoga and Peace

by Administrator
Hare KrishnaBy a Dasa

Prabhupada quickly engaged his disciples in mimeographing thousands of pamphlets with his “peace formula” philosophy, and he distributed them worldwide. Here is what he had to say: “The great mistake of modern civilization is to encroach upon others’ property as though it were one’s own and to thereby create an unnecessary disturbance of the laws of nature. These laws are very strong. No living entity can violate them. Only one who is Krishna conscious can easily overcome the stringency of the laws of nature and thus become happy...

WSN May 2024 – World Sankirtan Newsletter

by Administrator
By Vijaya Das

In most of the temples around the world, it's summertime. A time when people are outdoors, soaking up the rays of the sun--and if they're lucky, meeting devotees who dispel the darkness of maya with the sun of Krsna consciousness. Let's see how our sunlike distributors shone in May. Among the Large Temples, ISKCON Silicon Valley (ISV) had the highest increase with 58,683 book points. ISV leader Vaisesika Prabhu is firing up the whole world with the Bhadra campaign, so you can imagine how fired up the devotees are who directly serve with him. Since I'm also based at ISV now, hopefully I too wil...

Least But Not Last: A Few Words on Humility

by Administrator
Hare KrishnaBy a Dasa

Honesty and truthfulness, then, are two essential elements of humility. They manifest as one's ability to honestly assess oneself, to recognize and admit one's own faults and defects as a conditioned jiva, and to admit the truth of one’s compromised situation. Sadly, many of us try to create a false image of ourselves, both to posture, to convince ourselves of our own greatness, and to manipulate others into believing that we are great, too. Only through internal honesty can we begin to make real progress in spiritual life. Thus, to clean out the conditioning that has a...
