Death: An inconvenient truth?
Life is like a game of chess – whether you’re the king, queen or pawn, at the end of the game everyone ends up in the box. Unless, of course, you get cremated. Morbid? Depressing? Dark? Though discussions on death are not usually number one on our conversation list, I was invited to the Southbank Centre a few weeks ago to speak on the topic “what happens next?” In an auditorium filled with coffins and somber lighting, I shared some thoughts on the logic of life after death. Living in a community of devotees, su...

HG Tejiyas Das: Little Sarasvati, always busy busy busy, had been collecting odds āand-ends, and set-up a make-shift temple, on the end of the verandah furthest from Srila Prabhupadaās room. His Divine Grace often wandered out, pacing back and forth chanting japa, observing the devotees and sometimes just sitting and enjoying the Vaikuntha breezes.

In Calcutta in 1972 ÅrÄ«la PrabhupÄda was on a morning walk with many brahmacÄrÄ«s. Some of the brahmacÄrÄ«s complained that the women also lived in the Calcutta temple on Albert Road. One brahmachÄrÄ« said, "ÅrÄ«la PrabhupÄda, sometimes women do not cover their heads with sari." and "Why can't women find a place other than brahmacÄrÄ«s? Their presence does not contribute to our brahmacÄrya lives."

“Communication is the key to healthy relationships.” If we are truly serious about someone’s presence in our lives, then no matter how challenging, we will make an endeavor to contribute all we can and more to share our grievances and good news with them. Spirituality is a key contributing factor to our sense of self. Regarding matters of faith, ancient Vedic texts speak of vandanam or prayer as a means of communication with the Lord.

Srila Prabhupada: Even if we vegetarian are, then how you become big? The goats are vegetarian. Huh? ApadÄni catuį¹£-padÄm. This vegetable is meant for the catuį¹£-padÄm, for the animals, four-legged animals. If somebody says that "Why shall I take this vegetable? It is meant for the animals. I shall take the animal." That is a good argument. Yes. So, to become vegetarian is not ahiį¹sÄ at all. It is a bogus theory. To become a devotee and take Kį¹į¹£į¹a prasÄdam, that is perfect. Kį¹į¹£į¹a says, patraį¹ puį¹£paį¹ phalaį¹ toyaį¹ yo me bhaktyÄ prayacchati

“The Hare Krishna Maha-mantra: Our Ultimate Benefactor” (Back to Godhead, Vol. 53, No. 2)
a Das: “‘Hare’ can refer to both Hari, or Krishna, the Supreme Lord, and Radha, known as Mother Hara. When perceived in the latter sense, common in the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, it is an address to God’s energy, specifically His spiritual pleasure potency (hladini-shakti), who is also known as His female manifestation: Radhika. The word hari also means “thief.” In relation to Radha and Krishna, it refers ...

Sacinandana Swami: Once there was a lady in India called Kamabai. She lived in a small straw hut and materially speaking she was very poor. However, she had strong love for our Lord, Jagannatha, in her heart. Every morning before the Lord received His over 30 food preparations from the first-class priests in the temple, she cooked a simple stew called kitchari which traditionally consists of rice, beans and if you have enough money also vegetables. It is easy to digest and the main food of the money-less.

14 Krishna Conscious Affirmations with Evidence.
How could your life change if you choose to think this way?
1. My human life is sacred and I am responsible to honor it in that way.
“The human body, which can award all benefit in life, is automatically obtained by the laws of nature, although it is a very rare achievement. This human body can be compared to a perfectly constructed boat having the spiritual master as the captain and the instructions of the Personality of Godhead as favorable winds impelling it on its course. Considering...

They had to be fifty or sixty feet long, in one single throw. I-beams of very heavy steel. And somehow we had to get them into the ceiling. And we had no money. So I went to Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones and asked him, and he said, "Oh, yes, just have my secretary give you the check." So he bought them.

Visakha dasi ACBSP: Think of a topiary. A topiary is a shrub clipped to create a particular shape. When we look at a topiary, we don’t see the plant’s natural shape but the shape that’s been imposed on it. Topiaries may be visually entertaining, but when that “clipping” is applied to people and they are forced to function in ways that may be artificial for them, it leads to misery. To prevent someone from serving Krishna according to his or her personal proclivities is a kind of violence. No one wins – not the persons ...
