Our warmest congratulations to the Rt Hon Rishi Sunak on his appointment as Prime Minister today, on this most auspicious day of Diwali.
Mr Sunak swore his oath as an MP on the Bhagavad Gita he worshipped a cow during a recent ritual and lit Diwali lamps at his Downing Street residence.

It is the duty of the twice-born to see to it that the working classes are well provided for, so that there can be peace in society. Let us wait to see where Mr. Sunak intends to wield his fiscal axe. When the price of basic foods is increasing faster than the general rate of inflation, and when children are going without meals as a matter of routine in this country, we should remember Srila Prabhupada's remark that for as long as a single person goes hungry, no nation can call itself civilised. It is imperative that the sadhus speak truth to power. Mr. Sunak would surely appreciate this point. We trust that this principle will not be sacrificed for the sake of forming unquestioning relationships with dollar-and-cent political leaders of any background, for such behaviour is not recommended either by Srila Prabhupada or by his predecessors, nor is such behaviour respected by political leaders of any actual calibre.
Time will tell whether out new leader puts Krsna first in his decisions ! Hari Bol Rishi !
