By Maharishi Das
I wasn’t having a good day at all today. Breathing was difficult and I’d vomited blood in the morning and had a black out, and was generally unwell so when the phone rang I picked it up with a heavy heart, not really wanting to answer. It turned out to be one of my customers who I also send Harinama videos to every week.
I said, “Hello?” and I got a reply, “This is Ryan.”
I asked, “How are you doing?” and an eery silence followed. Eventually he said, “You remember I told you my wife was very ill with a brain tumour?”
I said, “Yes….”; “Well,” he replied, “She died on Monday in a hospice.”
I said, “I am so sorry to hear that. my sincere condolences.” Then he said, “I really want to thank you so much”
“But, I have done nothing,” I replied, “I never even visited her. I’m so sorry.” He said, “No you’ve done a lot, remember you sent some neck beads to her 5 months back? Well, she left wearing them. She felt so peaceful after getting them, she wore them and it helped her a lot.”
Ryan then told me something that really touched my heart, he said, “Thank you so much for continuing to send me the videos. Please continue sending them to me. Throughout my wife’s illness she was watching them almost every day. Prior to watching the videos she never believed in God.”
I said “Wow!” I didn’t know any of this, but apparently he saw her change immensely. I asked him how it had happened and he said she had started telling him that she has faith and that God exists. She had told him this many times after seeing the Harinams. She said that she could see that the devotees going out on the streets are special and with God. He added that she would wait for Sunday to come and for me to send a new video. Ryan explained that for weeks he felt her preparing to leave her body and saw her draw strength from her faith in God and the Maha Mantra. As I thanked him for ringing to tell me this, he caught me by surprise and told me the last words his wife spoke to him was Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna.
I was taken aback and was quite amazed. I asked “How do you feel?” He said, “I feel you have helped her to be at peace.” I replied, “It was God’s work. I have done nothing at all and am useless, but am so happy that I was able to serve you and your wife.” He has invited me to the funeral and asked me to speak from the Bhagavad Gita. I will be honoured to do so. I am taken aback by how many people I send the videos to have told me not to stop. My health is still poor and I can do so little compared to all the exalted devotees around me, but I pray every day, “Please lord allow me to go out on Harinama as the process truly works.â And who know who will be touched by Harinama Sankirtan. The More Harinams and the more books distributed the more will be saved from all material suffering plain and simple.
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Thank you for posting that amazing story of mercy and good fortune. Encouraging for Ryan, for all devotees, and especially those in any way involved in harinam and SrÄ«la PrabhupÄda's transcendental book distribution. Chanting, dancing, feasting, and philosophy is Lord Chaitanya's sublime process and it IS having a profound effect, far, far wider and deeper than is immediately apparent.
All glories to harinam sankÄ«rtan and the distribution of SrÄ«la PrabhupÄda's books.
