I thought this general presentation had some good things to say. But what we need today is the detail and an updated article to show what foods are now processed to death and what foods are produced that use a lot of chemicals and Diesel.
One of the main differences today from the 1960s and 1970's is the increased usage of processing foods to death.
Although it may be correct to classify certain foods within the 3 modes of nature as Foods, there still is today another layer that degrades foods. The way food is grown and produced is one layer, and the way food has additives and processed is another.
For me the question is as well as choosing the Mode of Goodness Foods to offer to Krishna but also to grow all the foods myself without Diesel powered agriculture, without any use of Chemicals, and without any processing. For example here in the UK Commercial Potatoes are sprayed at least 33 times whilst growing and before harvesting. Now this is the problem with how Food is produced, it is within the framework of Commercialization, so they are producing Food to make money and therefore to grow Potatoes they need a certain target weight per acre to make a profit, hence the continual spraying.
This is also true for Rape Seed Oils, the whole crop is sprayed with 2 chemicals before harvest. One is to make the crop ripen simultaneously and the other is a glue to keep the pods stuck closed so that seeds are not lost in the harvesters vibrations, so as to keep more seeds in the harvesters. And then in the processing of the Oil seeds to make Oil is a destructive nutrient issue and questionable as to its Vegetarian make-up.
So there are manifold problems in food production today within Commercialization.

    Dusyanta Prabhu,
Commercialization and intense competitiveness creates the need for over processing, as well discontinuation of farming with oxen, and an entire reconstruction of the economy. The Vaishya class maintains it right to make profit, but neglects its responsibility ensure all the sudras are employed.
In the early 1900's, large scale farming became mechanized in the U.S. Millions became unemployed. Excessive wheat was produced; and could not be sold. Tons were dumped in the ocean while the unemployed stood in line for hours to get free bread. Because of an artificial economy, a depression ensued, in spite of abundant resources. When all basic needs can be produced while employing a small percentage of laborers, artificial needs must be created to sustain the artificial economics system. The U.S. overcame the depression by employing laborers in the WW2 effort. Since then we continually develop artificial needs. Eventually these needs, and the harmful byproducts, will exceed what the Earth is willing to supply. The root problem is giving up responsibilities assigned by Vedic Varnasrhama.
