After reading this article for 3-4 times it seems to me that its fairly disappointing that after all this time(over 50 years) we have not progressed further than this. I think there are quite a few fundamental mistakes in this presentation that we could have overcome many years ago. Even if we had followed the default position of trial and error we could be way more advanced with Agricultural knowledge than this. It seems to me that Iskcon as a whole has not learnt from mistakes. And it comes across as not a very well thought through expose of Agriculture and its holistic existential presence within Community and Institutional demands for day to day requirements.
Just the concepts of "Milling" grains seemed to lack so much understanding as to the whys and wherefores and what are the goals.
We live in times where we KNOW that food today is nutrient depleted and how the refining and processing of foods is harmful to human health directly. None of these points and principles have been addressed considering we are talking about Agriculture and Food Production. I have always believed that as Devotees we are better than this, that it is our default position to teach the highest level of quality on Food and how it is produced in harmony with Nature, with Minimum of Violence ( Natihimsrena, S. Bhagavatam 3.29.15), and how we require healthy food to Offer and to respect, the best Food on the planet.
There just does not appear to be a basic plan on how to achieve this objective, it feels flat to me as though it is just a struggle to produce anything, what to speak about an educational tool and example of rules of Food engagement.
Iskcon purpose (6) To bring the members closer together for the purpose of teaching a simpler and more natural way of life.
So how do we teach this .." simpler and more natural way of life." if we dont know how do it ourselves.??
