Revised Initiation Procedures and Standards Policy for Iskcon UK

by Administrator / 3 Nov 2013 / Published in Announcements  /

By the Bhaktivedanta Manor Initiation Committee

Dear Devotees,

Please accept our humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Over the past year, after much thought and discussion, Bhaktivedanta Manor Initiation Committee has made significant changes to the standards and procedures for initiation. We hope you will find the new Initiation Procedures & Standards Policy more informative and fairer. The standards have been revised and separated into two categories; essential and desirable, making them more realistically achievable.

Devotees who feel they are ready for first or second initiation, and who wish to have the previous initiation policy applied to them, MUST email the information requested below to initiation@krishnatemple.com by midnight 31/12/13 (you must submit the details again, even if you have supplied this information in the past to your mentor/member of management etc):

1) your legal name and, if applicable, your spiritual name

2) your contact telephone no.

3) whether you are desiring first or second initiation

4) name of your Sanga/Bhakti Vriksha/Nama Hatta leader

5) name of your mentor

We will discuss with your mentor or yourself your personal situation, and (if appropriate) we will apply the previous policy to you if that is your wish.

The new Initiation Procedures & Standards Policy will apply to ALL devotees from 01/01/14 other than those who have supplied the above details to initiation@krishnatemple.com before the deadline of 31/12/13 and have been accepted to be assessed on the previous policy.  In all cases, any letters of recommendation for initiation will be valid for a period of one year only. If initiation is not taken within that period, the new policy will apply in full. Devotees are therefore strongly advised that they as soon as possible:

  • read through the new policy
  • register with the Mentorship System
  • begin following the procedures and standards as set out in the new policy

Visit www.krishnatemple.com to view the Initiation Procedures & Standards Policy; paper copies are available from the Manor reception desk. We request all devotees to carefully read through the policy as it is very likely that it will affect you at some stage in your Krishna conscious journey whether you aspire for initiation in the future, or whether you are already initiated and are guiding someone else.

For those wishing to attend the Guru and Disciple Course by Kripamoya prabhu and Srutidharma prabhu, the next course will be on Saturday 16th November 2013 from 10am to 4pm at Bhaktivedanta Manor. For more information, and to register, please visit the Manor reception or log-on: http://www.bhaktivedantamanor.co.uk/home/?p=8159

As per your recommendation, I went on your website but could not find trace of the new Procedures and Standards for Initiation. Is it really there or do I need new reading glasses?

    Visakha Priya Mataji,

I somehow clicked the right buttons to find the page where the document could be downloaded: http://www.bhaktivedantamanor.co.uk/home/?p=8652

I don’t remember the steps I took, but the above link ought to take you to the page, and at the bottom of the page you can download the 35-page manual. I have not read it yet, myself.

    Your servant, Akruranatha dasa

Okay, here is what I did:

From the home page I pulled down the “Departments” menu and went to the “Mentorship” page.

On the “Mentorship” page I saw the link for the new “Procedures and Standards for Initiation” on the right-hand side under “News and Events”. I clicked on that and it took me to the page that I provided a link for.

On the bottom of that page there is a link to download the document.

It appears that the whole 36-page document is already available right here on Dandavats at the bottom of this article.

    Y.s., Akruranatha dasa
