People come to this movement to find the Truth. If they suspect that they are being exploited, they will never be satisfied. If they are engaged in kind-hearted devotional service, they will be forever indebted for the genuine meaning and satisfaction, hope and joy that they are tasting. Krishna directs us to abandon all varieties of religiosity and surrender unto Him only. The genuine well-wisher, the transparent via media in Krishna consciousness have precisely the same message. Abandon all varieties of religiosity and surrender unto Krishna. Then, we know that we have the association of genuine gurus, and genuine bhaktas. Management means engaging others and one’s self in the devotional service of the Lord. Although we must “manage” the affairs of the movement, the main function of management is to provide opportunities for service, hearing and chanting about Krishna. When management becomes derailed, the outcomes are disastrous. We have experience of this, and we must guard against it.
Christ had a nice way of viewing “leadership or management”…LET THE FIRST BE LAST. This mentality means that one who is charged with guiding others in spiritual life must naturally provide a good example for others (not for show, but through their mature developing sincerity), and they must place the spiritual wellness of other seekers as a high priority. Krishna Himself stresses this at the end of His Bhagavad-gita in the 18th. chapter…for those who teach this science of surrender to the bhaktas, there is no one more dear to Me in this world, nor will there ever be.
I am perhaps not a survivor of this philosophy that I have noted above. I regret that, genuinely. So many twists and turns in life. But, the vision of a young person, with little experience, can mature with grace of Sri Guru and Sri Krishna. When Srila Prabhupad signed his letters to us…”Your ever well-wisher,” we can try to follow that ideal. If we want to become dear to Krishna, He has revealed that which is more endearing to Him. Srila Prabhupad once said to me, “we are simply living on this promise of Krishna.” Humbly submitted, Pusta Krishna das 9-2-14
