Rajsuya dasa: On Monday, September 17, the Ludhiana temple of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) observed “World Holy Name Day,” a celebration of the spiritual practice of chanting God’s names. The date also marks the anniversary of the 1965 arrival of ISKCON founder-acarya His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to the U.S., from his native India. Swami Prabhupada, a monk who came to America by cargo ship at the age of seventy, is honored as the first to carry the millennia-old tradition of Krishna worship-with its special emphasis on the Hare Krishna mantra, or sacred chant- outside of India. Although the Hare Krishna mantra is rooted in the ancient Vaishnava faith, a monotheistic denomination within the broad Hindu tradition, the practice of chanting – individually as a meditative act, and congregationally – is found in most faith traditions.
“The Lord has millions of holy names and you can chant any one of them.” Swami Prabhupada wrote, “Each and every name of the Lord is full of potency.” Iskcon, Ludhiana, observed World Holy Name Day with great devotions and dedications. There was non-stop kirtana in the temple from morning till evening. His grace Rajsuya das, Temple President of the temple told that by chanting Holy name will eradicate envy and this bring real peace, unity and fraternity to human society.
