Interestingly, Krishna arranges that the first Prabhupadanuga in Congress came from a guru who has his own separate institution. What is important is not of the guru is or isn’t authorized, but the adherence to teachings of the Founder-Acharya, Srila Prabhupada. The entire idea of Iskcon authorized guru’s takes a big hit everytime there is an institutional acknowledgement of the value of a person based on their beliefs and devotion to Srila Prabhupada’s teachings. There are numerous examples of such acceptance and respect including HH Narayan Maharaja pujari’s in Iskcon, HG Garuda’s status in good standing despite accepting a disciple without Iskcon authorization, etc. Tulasi Gabbard chose to talk about non-sectarianism – a subject that is totally appropriate to the occasion.
