Sridevi departs leaving an important message for humanity.
Since yesterday all the Indian news portals are full of updates on Sridevi, a superstar of Indian cinema industry, who left her body at 54 in Dubai giving an unforgettable shock to her fans, friends and well-wishers. Reports say she died of cardiac arrest.
There are thousands of pages written glorifying Sridevi for her acting skills, beauty, personal character, social matters, and so on. Now that she has left, there will be more of it. I do not intend to add to it. Instead I would highlight something that general populace has most likely missed. It is not about cardiovascular issues nor is it about avoidance of excessive dependence on modern drugs for maintaining physical fitness. It is also not about succumbing to social pressure or some conspiracy theory.
Despite the fact that her sudden departure has given shock and pain to many thousands of hearts, and despite the fact that I share the pain of those affected, I look at it from a different perspective. She has given an important message to humanity and every human being needs to take it seriously.
Life in this temporary material world, no matter how glamorous it may look, is like a bubble which expands to one’s joy and, adapting different colors, appears to float in the air nonchalantly. It looks beautiful only to find it bursting within a few illusive moments. Life, as most people know it, is similar to it. However, to those who learn the science of life, it is not at all deceiving.
Due to prevailing materialism and godlessness, people are influenced by a weird thought process. They think there is nothing beyond this life and so enjoy it to its fullness whenever you can. This is sheer foolishness as reincarnation is an undefeatable science and will happen without fail. Ignorance is never an excuse here. This makes it important for people to learn about genuine spirituality and life beyond death.
Sridevi’s demise once again proves how, for general mass, life is unpredictable. In reality, however, life is never unpredictable. Nor is death unpredictable. Both life and death are unpredictable only to human beings, not to those who manage these phenomena, the devatas, or demigods. Again, it is only due to lack of spiritual knowledge that such higher management or descriptions of powerful celestial beings sound mythological.
While I do not know how Sridevi practiced spiritual life, and hope she did it well, the message we can get from her sudden departure is, do not wait for old age to learn and practice spirituality. If there is one most important thing in human life, it is to get out of the cycle of birth and death. This is the real problem of life as death is inevitable for those who have taken birth and vice versa. To break this vicious cycle we are given higher intelligence which lacks in animals. If we use this higher intelligence only in acquiring more and more sense gratification then we are no better than animals.
The highest benefit of spiritual life is easily achievable by practicing Krishna consciousness. It is the process by which one is able to cleanse the mountains of thick dirt that cover one’s original spiritual consciousness. Just by chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra and sincerely following the simple principles taught by Lord Chaitanya one can acquire all good qualities of a human being and cross over the otherwise unsurpassable ocean of material existence.
People are misguided and confused by many so-called spiritualists and pseudo sadhus. As such they struggle putting faith even in a genuine process. It will be in their own benefit if they take Krishna consciousness more seriously and give it a higher priority in life without unnecessarily wasting time in things which are non-permanent. Remember that time will not wait for anyone not will death. To be wise is to look beyond death and engage in devotional service of the Lord. My profound well wishes and prayers for Sridevi ji’s successful spiritual journey.
