Progress of the Holy Name Week in Mayapur

The nearby town of Krishnanagar was the venue for the third day of the Holy Name week in Mayapur. Krishnanagar is the municipal and administrative headquarters for the district of Nadia in West Bengal. Srila Bhaktivinode Thakur worked here as a magistrate when he first started exploring the Holy Dhama to re-discover the lost Holy places. He also wrote his famous “Navadvip-Dhama-Mahatmya” whilst residing here.

Three buses of devotees left Mayapur at 2:30 pm, Monday 15th September, after a heavy downpour of rain which delayed the buses. The Harinam commenced from the Foreign Registration Offices, through the busy shopping areas, past the municipality. New banners added colour to the occasion – devotees carried pictures of Srila Prabhupada, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Maharaja, Srila Bhaktivinode Thakura and Lord Caitanya. And of course SriSri Nitai Mayapur-Chandra, the Harinama Deities, went along to lead the way.

Dried Prasadam consisting of two huge bags – approx 100 kg – famous Bengali “ghaja” sweets were handed out along the way, and pamphlets about the Holy Name were handed out.

The slight drizzle at the start of the Harinama subsided and cool weather reigned throughout.

The Harinama lasted for four hours and very exhausted devotees returned home very satisfied and blissful.
