Rama Foundation Launched

HH Kavicandra Maharaj, an ISKCON GBC, had once remarked that on each of his planned or unplanned visits to Malaysia he is either at a Ground Breaking event, Nama Hatta opening or a convention.  And when Maharaj called me from Bali on April 24 little did he know he was going to be invited for another of such an event. This time it was to be the ISKCON Malaysia National Temple ground breaking ceremony at Seberang Jaya, Penang on Aksaya Tritiya on April 27. Maharaj accepted our invitation and made his way to Malaysia after his preaching programmes in Singapore.

The Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple of Devotion & Understanding started with a Vastu Homa at 10AM performed by ISKCON Johore Bahru Chairman, HG Giri Gopal dasa and graced by HH Kavicandra Maharaj, HH Janananda Maharaj (project advisor), ISKCON Malaysia National Council, Temple Building Committee and project partners. The Homa was accompanied with melodious chanting of the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra by Kripa Sindhu Krishna dasa, the temple president of ISKCON Kuching. A total of about 700 guests and devotees including many Chinese were present. Weather for the day was simply heavenly. As soon as after Homa when it was time for devotees to witness the official launch of the Rama Gold RC pile an auspicious sign of a divya snana, a slight drizzle with the sun shining at the same time was experienced.

Temple Model

Before the Rama Gold launch, devotees also witnessed the unveiling of a 3 dimension 1:50 scale awesome looking model of the temple. Baladeva prabhu and his two assistants from Phillipines had especially come to Malaysia to construct the model. HH Janananda Goswami was then requested to hand a Letter of Award to Damodaran Sthapathy who would be the ornamental works contractor for the project. As a temple project partner and Tender Board member Sri Gauranga dasa took advantage of the auspicious day to hand over a RM110,000.00 building fund donation cheque to HH Janananda Goswami. (project Vice Chairman) and HH Janananda Goswami delivered short speeches mostly on Srila Prabhupada lila and inspired devotees to participate in the project. With the good time approaching and at 12.10 noon the Swamis then released a bundle of balloons to signify the launch of the Rama Foundation phase of the temple project. The Rama Foundation phase is to begin on Aksaya Tritiya Tithi with the launch of the Rama Gold (only gold coloured reinforced concrete pile) by the murti form of Srila Prabhupada followed by piling of 2050 RC piles numbered in serial after the name of Lord Rama.

Devotees were then treated with a full prasadam feast while the registration table was busy with devotees signing sponsorships for Rama RC piles. Those interested can also assist by sponsoring one or more of the 2050 Rama RC piles needed for the Temple complex foundation.  The construction which will also include a multipurpose hall is expected to take 3 years to complete.
