This announcement is intended for all devotees, so that you can put “World Holy Names Week” on your calendar. If this is the first time you are hearing about this year’s World Holy Names Week activities, please assume that we have not yet contacted your temple and send us an e-mail at ‘kirtan@krishna.com’ so that we can figure out how to get your temple involved.
These are the activities that are planned for World Holy Names Week (September 2-11, 2009):

1. Internet Sankirtan Party: we are asking temples (at least 50) to participate in sankirtan-yajna for 4 hours on Saturday, September 5th, 2009, and for another 4 hours on Sunday, September 6th, 2009. What is unique about this kirtan festival is that a single kirtan will be taking place in 50+ temples, as if we were all in one big temple room with many altars. One temple will do the “call”, and the other temples will do the “response.”
2. We are also asking each temple to organize a 50-man Harinam Party for the 50th-year Anniversary of Srila Prabhupada’s Sannyasa (Friday, September 4th, 2009).
3. Japathon: we would like all devotees and congregational members to make a japa commitment for World Holy Names Week (September 2nd through September 11th). In a 10-day period, 4 devotees chanting 16 rounds will chant more than 1 million Holy Names. 4000 devotees will chant 1 billion Holy Names. So it is very likely we will be able to chant several billion Holy Names during World Holy Names Week. His Divine Grace Om Visnupad Paramahamsa 108 Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur Prabhupada spent 8 years chanting 1 billion Holy Names. If we can chant several billion Holy Names during this 10 day period, then let us make that our worthy goal for our purification and the pleasure of our acharyas.Â
