Pumpkin harvest in Almvik! (Album of photos)

by Administrator / 13 Oct 2020 / Published in Recent Media  /

Astasahki and Narayana harvested 450 kg of pumpkins today. It will last until March for the temple kitchen. Srila Prabhupada stressed very much that our farm communities should produce our own food. Lokantha das has grown few hundred kilos of carrots, some hundred kilos of beatroots and 1000 kgs of potatoes for the temple. There is still kale, black kale, swiss chard, brussel sprouts on the field and the last zucchinis for this year.

    Hare Krishna.
Yes we have also been harvesting our own Pumpkins, Gourds and Squash this week and storing them for all year round use. But for us it does not stop here. In September we sowed a multitude of Flowers and vegetables for over Wintering and early Winter and Early Spring Harvesting. There are so many Vegetables and Flowers that grow all year around that we can harvest every week of the year. For example we grow Coriander, Chard, Beetroot and Carrots all year and so many others too. This year we have switched over to F2 seeds so we can sow seeds of our own next time. All the F1 seeds are impotent and you have to buy seeds each year which is a big expense. Another step in the Self-sufficiency movement. We have been planting more fruit trees, more fruit berry plants and Grapes. And so we expand more and more each year. This year we have a whole shed of stored food, we make all our own Jams, Preserves and Peanut Butter, all our own Cordials from Elderberries and Elderflower, which grow wildly around our small holding. The simple life is full of opulence and hard work. And now we make all our own Body Products and Cleaning Products, so goodbye to chemicals and wasted plastic containers. Hello mode of goodness lifestyle.
