By Gauranga Darshan DasThe company that we keep plays a significant role in our lives. Our desires, habits, and goals are often dependent on the association that we are in (saṅgāt sanjāyate kāmaḥ, BG 2.62). Associating with cultured people helps us develop good habits, and associating with corrupt people makes us corrupt generally. The holy scriptures therefore repeatedly recommend that we avoid bad association and keep good association. Here is Lord Kṛṣṇa’s direct description on the glory of saintly association, in the Uddhava-gīta, the philosophical song that He sang to enlighten His dear ...

By Gauragopala DasLoyalty and acts of loving devotional service, are only possible in the Spiritual Worlds when the relationship with Krishna is expressed in a "two way" contributing exchange. "Loyalty" is a "two way" street that can ONLY exist when "two" are having loving respectful exchanges of feelings. Without this basic rule in the Spiritual Planets, there can NEVER be genuine love within one's relationship with Krishna. Emotions expressed in a "one way" mood without the contribution of loving exchanges only experienced in a "two way" relationship, is NOT love at all, it is selfishness, and is real...

By Dwaipayan DeIt is worthwhile mentioning over here, that a cell, which is the basic constituent of a human body, has a definite life span, and once a particular cell dies, it is replaced by another. In this way, it is believed that over a span of 7 years, all the cells that constitute the physical body of a person, are completely replaced by new ones. So in effect, a person receives a new body in every 7 years. Now if someone identifies himself with his own body, then he should be considered dead in the next seven years, as he gets physically replaced, or should we say, it is he who is r...

By Karuna Dharini DasiA full-time distributor of the seventies and eighties, Lavangalatika was very devoted to Srila Prabhupada and would go out seven days a week on sankirtana. Although we would see her at mangala-artika we rarely saw her for the rest of the day. She did a lot of books, she averaged in the thousands of dollars every week in her collection, and with her proper English accent, she was very personal, with a funny high spirit and bright blue eyes. Her father was an officer in the military during the British occupation of India. She took the support of the temple and the BBT as a personal respo...

At the moment Maharaja does not have any symptoms but the doctors and the Seva-Committee are having an emergency meeting to decide on a plan of action for treatment and if it is necessary to move Maharaja to a hospital. By Sankirtana Das2020. It’s been a rough year. Brutal for some. Revelatory for others, especially that the leaders in the Kali-yuga (the age of quarrel and hypocrisy) are pretend leaders. There is no proper training on how to be a leader. This pretending has been going on for quite some time, and now it has only become more evident. In Mahabharata, the teacher, Dronacarya, sent the two prime candidates for leadership into the city to perform a task. Duryodhana is sent to find someone better than himself. Yudhisthira is sent to find someone lower than himself. Duryodhana examines the people he encount...

By ISKCON Ministry of EducationIt is with great enthusiasm that we present to you our latest Quarterly Journal. This issue is special for two reasons. Firstly, it has been published during a very special Sankirtan season in ISKCON. A time when there is much focus on book distribution. However, there are innumerable methods to distributing Srila Prabhupada’s books during this time. Traditionally it started with taking advantage of the Christmas spirit celebrated through-out the world, but now opportunities are presented through the spirit of Gita-jayanti; and the interfaith dialog taking place because of...

By Lilamayi Radha dasiFor the past 3 years, ISKCON Hong Kong has launched an outreach Sri Damodara Street program during the all auspicious Kartik month. This year was no exception. Devotees set up a mini mobile temple on the street and warmly invited the passers-by to offer ghee lamps to Sri Sri Gaura Nitai and Sri Sri Yasoda Damodara Deities. This program was accompanied with sweet chanting of the holy names, lovely prasadam and book distribution. In the face of the epidemic, we immensely felt that the message of Godhead was much needed in the society to give both the dressed and distressed light and hope...

By Prishni Devi DasiThe BIHS workshop was designed to facilitate intellectual discourse engaging 5th Canto cosmographical models frequently discussed within ISKCON. The workshop explored historical and contemporary models along with new research that enhances the rich devotional culture engaging this topic. The Director of the BIHS, Brahmatirtha das (MS Geology), one of the founding members of the Bhaktivedanta Institute who participated in the original 1977 “Life Comes From Life” conference held in Vrindavan while Srila Prabhupada was present, explained, “We are striving to elevate the discourse to...

By Ernesto LondoñoThis is a revolutionary article from the New York Times in the USA. It came out today. It's a long time coming! And it speaks of Krsna consciousness in a very favorable way as well! A big bravo for Ms.Tavares! Please notice Srila Prabhupada's photo on the wall in the photo. All glories to His Divine Grace!. Ms. Tavares, a Hare Krishna who describes cooking as a sacred act that brings her closer to God, says, “There is a shift of consciousness underway.”

By Braja Vilasa DasThe year 2020 was a most difficult year for all of us due to the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic. With TOVP construction halted for almost eight months and a significant loss to our regular income stream, we had to make the difficult decision to push back the Grand Opening to 2023, and reschedule the installation of the new Prabhupada murti to October 2021. Work resumed in September on a limited scale, and slowly we are beginning to catch up to a normal workload.

By Lokanath SwamiKURUKSHETRA, about one hundred miles north of New Delhi, is best known as the place where the great battle of the Mahabharata was fought and Lord Krsna spoke the Bhagavad-gita. But long before that, Kurukshetra had played a dominant role in the history and culture of ancient India. For thousands of years it was a hub around which the Vedic civilization spun in its full glory. Kurukshetra's religious importance is described in many scriptures, including the Bhagavad-gita, the Mahabharata, and various Upanishads and Puranas. The scriptures refer to it as a place of meditation and an abode of ...

By Malati Devi DasiWith immense sorrow and deep regret, I beg to report the departure of Her Grace Yamuna devi dasi, premier disciple of Srila Prabhupada, known for her deeply spiritual qualities and connection with His Divine Grace, for her glorious offering of the Govindam prayers that we hear and chant daily, for her love of pure kirtan, for her ecstatic award winning cook books which were infused with spiritual anecdotes, for greatly inspiring and encouraging the younger generation of ISKCON devotees in their KC, on this morning of Saphala Ekadasi, in her Melborne Beach Florida ashram-kutir which she sh...

By Yamuna Devi DasiHe was so engaged, so busy, preaching to tens of thousands of people and taking care of our entire Society, yet he personally took charge of my recovery. To this day I become emotional just remembering this. For me it only increased my dedication to see that this small insignificant soul Yamuna was so cared for and nurtured by Srila Prabhupada. In my later challenges, I drew strength and determination from this episode in my devotional life. Another thing I remember about the illness was the loving care of my Godsisters, among them Visak...

By Jaganmohini devi dasiThis year, in the midst of unprecedented crisis faced by the world due to SARS-Covid-19, there was heartening news which delighted at least all the well-wishers of H.H. Bhaktisvarupa Damodara Swami. The announcement of Sir Roger Penrose winning the Nobel for physics brought cheers to many of us. Besides, soon after the announcement, the book 'Science, Spirituality and The Nature of Reality', a dialogue between Sir Roger Penrose and Dr. T.D. Singh was in demand and recorded good online sales on Amazon.

By Jayapataka SwamiIn Mayapur, because of the outreach programs, various namahatta devotees attending in Mayapur, somehow the coronavirus has spread amongst our namahatta preachers. So they have quarantined the whole namahatta and they are undergoing treatment. But this disease is, you know – it is hard to make the devotees understand that this is a serious thing, it is still there.
