By Jayapataka SwamiIt was a long operation, 10-12 hours and he thought maybe 50:50 chance. So I am very grateful to all the GBCs and god brother and god sisters who prayed for me. By Gauranga Darshan DasIn the material world, a conditioned soul, due to his false ego, is generally not comfortable to think of oneself as a ‘subordinate’ to anyone including God. But it is in the best interest of a soul to accept subordination to God and His representatives at various levels. Submissiveness to the Supreme Lord, the bona fide spiritual master and their transparent representatives constitute one of the vital aspects of spiritual advancement. Srila Prabhupada writes...

By Aseem krishna DasDharmsala is a beautiful hill station in Kangra valley of Himachal Pradesh. Located at a height of 4800ft. from sea level, it is situated on the slopes of scenic dhauladhar mountain range. The view of these mountains from our host's roof in Dharmsala is really fascinating. Dhauladhar's snow covered peaks decorate this valley just like a mighty crown. It’s rich flora and fauna renders the landscape even more beautiful. Dhauladhar range is a paradise for worldwide m...

By Hari-sauri dasaI HAVE ALWAYS done a bit of travelling, at least since 1975 when I was fortunate enough to join Srila Prabhupada’s personal entourage. I got to travel India and around the world with His Divine Grace, and it gave me my first look at worldwide ISKCON. I was impressed. Impressed with Srila Prabhupada and impressed with his disciples and the amazing scope of transcendental activity that was manifesting all over the globe. Unity was the key, and that was achieved through the presence and desire of Srila Prabhupada. Later, after His Divine Grace’s disappearance I served ...

By the IMCPA teamIn the ahimsa community there are 2000 people. 4% are ISKCON and 8% receive milk and the rest support the ahimsa dairy foundation. They find the vision enthralling and want to support its work. We have 48 acres and will be buying a further 25 acres shortly. 180 people sponsor cows and we have 360 members who pay at least £9 per month. There is a waiting list of 1000 people who want milk and so we have stopped taking new applicants.

By Urmila Devi DasiSurrender to the Supreme Whole is not an abnegation of will but a willful decision to “respond rightly to the dancing of Krishna” rather than dance independently, as Prabhupada writes in Krishna, Chapter 33. He also says that the whole world is full of Krishna’s singing. Those souls whose every thought, word, and action is like a song and dance in harmony with Krishna achieve ultimate surrender and unlimited spiritual bliss.

By Indradyumna SwamiYou are surely worthy of all the eloquent words being spoken at this occasion in honor of the amazing service you are rendering to our spiritual master, Srila Prabhupada and his movement. Personally I feel you are the one specifically empowered to carry on his most cherished desire that his books to be distributed far and wide all over this planet. And because you have done it extensively, written about it in a most perfect way and are inspiring so many devotees to...

By ELM staffThe first presentation and discussion was on the subject of ISKCON membership. In ISKCON we have been a little befuddled and challenged for sometime regarding how to categorise membership. Should it be something for the people to aspire to or should it be more easy and simple to be counted among ISKCON's membership?Should it be based on initiation or is that too guru centric? Should we do so on the same basis as the Catholic Church and introduce the equivalent of their bapt...

By Bhakta DavidThe other inmates do not bother me anymore as I have a decent reputation here about the way I am. My willingness to help others without strings attached (as is the norm in prison), has endeared me to many. Being an instructor and mentor in the Skills Program has also worked in my favor. And my open-mindedness to other religions has unlocked many doors. Prisoners, for the most part, are good judges of character (don’t BS the Bser’s). As such, my sincerity and devotio...

By MinaThe UK yatras were out in full force for the World Holy Name Festival (17 - 24th September) this year. The week kicked off with Kirtan Fest in Leicester, where the holy names were chanted throughout the weekend. This year's festival was made extra special as it was celebrating the 35th anniversary of Sri Sri Radha Madhava's installation, and that the Grade II listed temple was able to welcome new guests as part of Heritage Open Day, where historic buildings in the city open the...

By Vijaya DasaAn interesting thing happened in the USA: Paramesvara Prabhu distributed 280 Arabic books in August. That's about ten Arabic books a day. Amazing! Another interesting score is one that Lord Krsna will be especially pleased by: the No. 2 temple in the world in August was Vrindavan, the village of Krsna's appearance. The devotees did 21,155 book points. They distribute large numbers of books right at the temple, and there is also a traveling book distribution team. I'm sur...

By Purushottam Nitai DasWe live in a fool’s paradise when we think that money is the ambrosia for all our material sufferings. Rarely we are content with our accumulated wealth. “I want more is the common call”. Money is considered to be the gateway to name and fame, power and position. And in the quest to accumulate paper currency we compromise with our health and do not feel necessary to nurture relationships with our near and dear ones. Yes, money can empower us to buy material things of this mortal world. But money has severe limitations. Money c...

By Karnamrita dasaOur heart is compared in the scriptures to be like a clear crystal that reflects what is before it. We become like who we associate with closely or intimately. That means that when we open our heart to someone, and they open their heart to us there is an exchange of energy or power--we and they are influenced. I meet people all day where I work. Some I have gotten to know well, others casually. I see coming together with someone like two doors facing each other. Behind each door is many pathways leading to different oceans. So two people...

By Praghosa DasI was saddened to hear about the fire at the Manor's Goshala but incredibly grateful to Krishna that nobody was hurt and that the cows are safe. I was also very happy to learn that Jagaddhatri, Devaki and Sanjay are all fine after being treated in hospital for smoke inhalation. The quick actions and tireless work of both our devotees and emergency services helped to contain the fire, and avoid what could have been an unimaginable disaster. It is testimony to the devotee...

By Bhadra Rupa DasaLife is an art to live, and a work of art is like a window to the spiritual world through which we can express our personality, our sensibility, and our ability. More than simply perfecting a technique to provide entertainment. By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada, I learned about Krishna, the supreme flutist! I invented and patented a flute. The first time in history (recognized by Lund University) that a musician earned a university degree based on a musical invention...

Gopika-Kanta DasiThe majority of second generation youth utilize a double life strategy that ultimately becomes unsustainable. The story of identity crisis and experiences of cognitive dissonance are rampant among second generation youth. Therefore, as a current Sunday School educator in ISKCON of New Jersey who specifically works with adolescents, I've embarked on a journey to answer this question: How can ISKCON communities bridge the gap for second generation teenagers operating in...
