By the KC BloggerIn our pursuit of eradicating unhappiness, we actually create more. We are spoilt; we have become used to receiving pleasure and absolving pain too instantly. Got a hangover? Have a Paracetamol. Feel hungry? Want something supremely tasty but takes no effort to prepare? Here's reconstituted carcass-meat packed with chemicals. Hey, at least it tastes good.

By Caru dasLastly, I sat in the temple courtyard, anonymous to all but a few "old timers", and simply watched in amazement all the passing cavalcades of devotees, mostly quite young, from India and all over the world, massed here in the Holy Dham. I thought that what Prabhupada started four decades ago by coming, a single penniless sadhu, to America has now become a titdal ocean which will inundate the entire world.

By Praghosa dasa As ISKCON celebrates it's 40th birthday we have much to reflect on. From it's humble beginnings when Srila Prabhupada was more or less alone in a foreign land, to it's early days when devotees began to join, to it's explosion in the 70's and 80's. Later in the 80's and on up to the present day ISKCON's record is more mixed, actually many would say that ISKCON's record has always been mixed. If that is true then we can probably agree that the difference now is that ISKCON's mixed fortunes are more highlighted, as opposed to the halcyon days w...

By Deena Bandhu dasAfter aratika, Padmalocana Goswami surprised us all by taking the Salagram Silas in an ornate silver cart on a Rathayatra circumambulating Sri Radharamanji. Unfortunately, he was moving too fast for us to get a good photo of the Rathayatra. The photos presented here were taken by a Swedish disciple of Devamrita Swami named Karunapurna Devi Dasi, who is on her first visit to the Holy Dhama, Sri Vrindavan.

By Sita-pati dasAs both Krishna-kirti prabhu and His Holiness Danavir Maharaja went to some lengths to point out in their articles, there is nothing wrong with congregational members honestly maintaining themselves through teaching hatha yoga outside of ISKCON owned facilities, and at the same time using it as an opportunity to bring people in contact with Krishna Consciousness.

By Dayananda dasThey came into Prabhupada's quarters wearing suits, so he called for chairs. Maharaj and the other scientist disciples protested, because his disciples never sat higher than Prabhupada, who was sitting on the floor. Moreover, Prabhupada would not have tolerated such a violation of etiquette from a disciple. Still, Prabhupada insisted, and showed them how much he appreciated their efforts.

By Praghosa dasaThe morning session started with Prahladananda Swami presenting his paper “Duties of GBC and Guru in ISKCON” This paper challenged the audience to reflect on whether the guru in ISKCON is properly situated under the authority of the GBC. And if there is not proper alignment on this point then how to rectify it and if it isn't rectified what is the fallout likely to be?

By Deena Bandhu dasThen bringing Maharaja carefully down the steps of the temple, the devotees took him on parikrama of Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Mandir three times. His disciples sweetly chanted a nice Manipuri melody of Hare Krishna Mahamantra. The procession moved very slowly and reverentially around the parikrama path. After the third round, Maharaja was taken to the Samadhi Museum and there was a huge surge and rush.

By Indradyumna Swami"Fortunately, a teacher in a local school took pity on me and tutored me in her spare time. Going to church and praying to God was all that made sense in life at that time, but as I grew older, I became dissatisfied with the sermons, as they didn't explain enough about God. I was frustrated. 'How will I ever know Him?' I often said to my friends.

By Citraka dasaFirst to speak was Prahladananda Swami who presented many quotes from Srila Prabhupada which more or less made clear that there are little or no grounds for devotees to receive salaries for services rendered. He did mention that there maybe exceptional circumstances that would warrant this and Prabhupada also allowed this, but that the norm should be that ISKCON does not pay salaries.

He worked tirelessly to make Lokanatha Swami the Sri Mahant of our new ISKCON Akhara.

Hatha-yoga is an important aspect of Vedic culture, and promoting Vedic culture wherever possible is always beneficial for preaching. Teaching hatha-yoga also happens to be an honest livelihood. Hatha-yoga taught within boundaries acceptable to our parampara, that is, for physical and mental health, means that it is being taught without an element of deception.
