By Atmananda dasaThere is no contradiction. Rather, we become both: simultaneously dependent and independent: independent for Krishna; both surrendered - thinking ourselves fully dependent - and autonomous. By becoming instruments, we act as little Krishnas, manifesting His brilliant and magnetic qualities, as Srila Prabhupada does. He instructs and guides us to become fully qualified - like touchstones ā to transform others also, into pure servants of the servants of the Lord. Surrender means that we are willing and able to carry out the apparently impossible mission, the desire of guru ...

By Deva Darshan DasSharing wisdom and ideas on a forum are great but going on site and making things happen is even better. My point is, I believe successful congregational leaders should make themselves more accessible to Leaders from struggling countries. We cannot only unite during the Mayapur festival or when we need to sign petitions to avoid temples closing down. I am not saying create a mess. Of course, there should be discipline and everything has to be done under the Local authority... but none of our temple deserves to be the weakest link...Should...

By Vijaya DasaIt looks like Covid-19 was a blessing in disguise for the Vancouver temple in August. I don't remember ever seeing such a high score. It was the No. 9 temple worldwide, with almost 7,000 book points. Another pleasant surprise is the No. 1 book distributor for the month: Vibhu Caitanya Prabhu, an old friend, from Durban. He's been a book distributor for many years, but I've never seen him score so high. It looks like another Covid-19 blessing in disguise. He did 4,380 book points, and the Durban temple was right behind the Vancouver temple, No. 10 in the world, with 6,029 book points.

By Devamrita SwamiFive main areas of Caution for Leaders: 1) Pride- Which creeps in very subtly so one has to constantly beg to Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu that I am a tiny serviter. 2) Isolation- Our leaders should find out proper association of devotees & avoid being isolated. 3) Envy- Srila Prabhupada would say envy means indirect appreciation. So we have to convert this to direct appreciation & we have to be always grateful to Prabhupada. 4) Inattentiveness to necessary spiritual nourishment due to being busy in serving Krishna- We should be attached for doing what Krishna likes & avoid what we like. 5) N...

By Gauranga Darshan Das Circumstances are not in our control, but our response is. Problems often come unannounced. When we suddenly face a problem, how do we respond to it on the spur of the moment? A personās sense of humor is worth appreciating when he or she cracks a lovely joke with perfect timing without offending anyone. Similarly, a personās sensibility and wisdom are worth admiring when he or she spontaneously takes a wise decision in an emergency on the spur of the moment. But people who are impulsive in nature, and lack maturity often respond negatively in trying circumstances. <...

By Bhaktivedanta Manor Communications OfficerI wanted to share the attached scan of a recent letter Visakha prabhu has received from Buckingham Palace, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen. It is in response to Visakha's article about the Queen entitled: "Royal Duty - Divine Duty" published in the Jul/ Aug 2020 edition of Back to Godhead. It was a very positive article praising the Queen's devotion to her duty, and how everyone can get closer to God through our own attention to duty and service.

By Madhavananda DasThere is a lot of discussion right now, especially in America, about the latest presidential election. In a recent issue of Sri Krishna Kathamrita Bindu we put together a collection of statements from Srila Prabhupada regarding his mood towards voting in secular circles. As always, Srila Prabhupada's attitude is purely Krishna conscious. I also found it very detached -- he was asked several times if he wanted his followers to vote or not, -- he repeatedly replied that the choice was ...

By Bhakti Raghava SwamiThe incident will always be fresh in my mind. I had been a practicing devotee for ten years, eight of which were in the sacred holy land of Sri Dham Mayapur in India. Little did I know that Krishna would be sending me the test of my life, the test of chanting His holy names. As had been the routine since 1979 when devotees from Mayapur had inaugurated the Nama Hatta preaching by introducing the chanting of the holy name in every town and village, as ordered by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, I had just returned fr...

By Sri Nandanandana dasaWe should not think that sankirtana, or the chanting of the Lord's holy names, is simply part of the system of mantra-yoga, or is merely a formula that has been passed down through the ages like other yoga systems. Nor is it a ritual, ceremony, or activity meant for producing good karma or positive fruitive results. Neither is it merely a way to focus the mind and achieve peace and tranquility. It is far more than any of these. It is the Lord Himself who establishes the chanting of the holy names

By Krishna-kripa DasLokanath Swami, Candramauli Swami, Sacinandana Swami, Agnideva Prabhu and Vaiyasaki Prabhu share their realizations during the Birmingham 24-Hour kirtana, carefully collected by Krishna-kripa Prabhu. Gopal Guru Goswami:. With the first Krishna, we call on Krishna to attract us. Then we call on Radha to attract us by Her sweetness. With the āHare Hareā we beg to be engaged in service. The last āRama Ramaā means āplease let me be fixed in your name, form, qualities, and pastimes.ā The...

By Urmila Devi DasiAmong the many presents I received for my sixth birthday were several pairs of heavy red stockings. Like most children, I preferred toys to clothes-especially duplicate clothes. So I ran to my room and pouted. Like any good mother, mine told me to return to my guests, smile, and say, "Thank you," regardless of how I felt about the gifts. We commonly show what value we place on things by how we treat them. If I respect the gift or the giver, I place the object in a position of honour or give ...

By Tapana Misra dasaThe International Shravanam week is not the end of the emphasis on reading every day. It was meant to have a concerted effort to remind us all of the significance of reading Srila Prabhupadaās books every day for every member of ISKCON. At the ministry we have now close to 108 realizations and several recorded interviews that we will release one every week. We hope that with your support we can maintain the enthusiasm until the next year festival and for lifetimes to come :- )

By Iskcon Harinam Sankirtan Ministry(This is a sticky, always updated post, with the latest news from the World Holy Name Festival). Srila Prabhupadaās greatest desire was to spread the chanting of the Holy Names all over the world. To fulfill this desire, the Governing Body Commission (GBC) of ISKCON established World Holy Name Day to commemorate Srila Prabhupada Arrival anniversary to the west, during Srila Prabhupada's Centennial in 1996. World Holy Name Day, along with many other Centennial programs was a tremendous success.

By Giriraj SwamiBoth the Gregorian and Vedic calendars comprise twelve months. But whereas the number of days in each month varies in the Gregorian calendar, the Vedic months are all of the same duration: about fourteen days from the new moon to the full moon and from the full moon to the new. The day of the new moon is known as amavasya, and the full-moon day is known as purnima. And just as the Gregorian calendar is periodically adjusted during years known as āleapā years, the Vedic calendar is also adjusted, every three years. But whereas the Gregorian adjustment adds one day to the month of Februar...

By Yugala Kishor Gour dasToday it is 55 years ago that Srila Prabhupada set foot on US soil for the first time, having being brought there by a ship called Jaladuta. It was one of the many vessels of the Scindia Steam Navigation Company from Bombay, one of the oldest shipping companies in India, founded in 1919. At the time the company was lead by Srimate Moraji, named Jamuna, who joint the business at the tender age of 20 years and build it from humble beginnings to one of India's largest with a fleet of 43 vessels and a combined deadweight of 550,000 ton.

By Loka Saranga DasaThe dream came true! We hit the road for Czech Padayatra again, for the 27th time. It was an absolutely nectarian and merciful highlight of the year. We left the gray comfort zone of our average troubled daily lives - which are full of danger at every step. Danger in the form of forgetting Krishna, Srila Prabhupadaās mercy, and the ocean of mercy of traveling Lords Chaitanya and Nityananda. There are no glimpses of forgetfulness during Padayatra as all are protected here. Wandering from town to town, village to village - with continuous kirtan, book and maha prasadam distribution, we ...

By Giriraj SwamiWhen Srila Prabhupada first arrived in America, it took some timeāalmost a yearābefore people began to take his message seriously. But gradually, after he moved to New York, some young men and women did join him. And after starting the first center, on Second Avenue, Srila Prabhupada sent some disciples to San Francisco. Soon thereafter, he went, too, and it was there that he inspired and celebrated the first Ratha-yatra in the Western world. Before leaving America to return to India, Srila Prabhupada told his disciples, āWhoever wants to please meāāof course, everyone wanted to p...

By Madhurika dasiWhen our children grow into teens, many of us find that inspiring them in Krishna consciousness becomes much harder.
