Vancouver Yatra, under the inspiration of Srila Prabhupada, has secured a Preaching Center in the ever active, culturally dynamic, bohemian flavoured, yoga friendly, veggie eating, green living, community centerd, bycicle riding district known as Commercial Drive.
Presided over by Sri Sri Gaura Nitai, this ashrama will be 100% dedicated to sadhana bhakti and book distribution. It will be used as a training center for new book distributing enthusiasts and head quarters for seasoned distributors alike.
In the coming year, we are gearing up for the Winter olympics being held here in 2010 and our vision is to have Srila Prabhupada’s books hitting the streets of Vancouver like a transcendental tidal wave. Please join us! Srila Prabhupada wants YOU!
By Lord Caitanay’s mercy, this project is being sponsored and bhaktas will be in the hands of seniour Prabhupada disciples and local book distributors. This is a very exciting project full of enthusiasm and focus to serve Srila Prabhupada.
At this time, we can only facilitate male devotees and with patience, enthusiasm and determination, we look forward to seeing the sister asrama to this project bloom.

The idea of living in a brahmacari preaching center in the Commercial Drive area of Vancouver and distributing books each day (and for the 2010 Olympics) is so attractive. I am really hankering to be able to do that. Those who are serving in that way are so fortunate. I must have committed many sins to be unable to participate.
I wish I could be a Canadian citizen, or even a landed immigrant. I am sure it has changed a lot since I used to live there in the 1970s.
I used to walk around Kitsilano (sp?) in the West End near UBC (I don’t even remember the geography there) and into the books storesand coffee shops there, slept in the parks, hitchhiked across the ferry to the Island and “squatted” on crown land in Sombrio Beach. The Vancouver people were friendly and receptive to Krishna consciousness, and the Victoria people and the people up in the Okonagan too.
And in the Vancouver temple, the devotees like Partha and Yoginath were the best association in the world anyone could hope for.
Is it just nostalgia that makes me see things this way? Maybe, but I don’t think so. Living in a brahmacari ashram selling Prabhupada’s book in Vancouver has got to be the ideal situation and the perfect use of a human form of life.
I was on a conference call a few months ago and Krpanidhi was on the line. Krpanidhi!! That was a voice from my past (although it did not sound like his voice, so I wasted everyone’s time trying to figure out if it was really *the* Krpanidhi, until Vaisesika made me stop).
My heart goes out to the brahmacaris in the Commercial Drive preaching center. I wish I could live with them and distribute books with them, at least for a few months, before my decrepit body becomes too feeble.
