By Jaganmohini Devi DasiDuring the time, when inter-religious and intra-religious war is intimidating mankind across the globe and with several nations joining hands for civil and nuclear wars to curb religious violence; at realistic level, a humanistic approach through inter-faith dialogue appears to be a ray of hope to minimise any religiously motivated violence. In this regard, for nearly two decades, the dedicated international Inter-faith organization, United Religions Initiative (URI) has been engaging people from varied background to bridge religious...

By Patita Pavana dasWhen Robins Williams died of apparent suicide on 11 August 2014, many of the devotee community were shaken. It was as though a fellow member of the Vaishnava community had passed away. Usually the death of a celebrity or politician or other famous person is greeted with a crescendo of indifference from the devotees, since as philosophers we understand that ultimate death is merely a natural consequence of living here in this martya-loka.

By Abeer SahaAfter an arrival lecture, in Gainsville (FL, USA), on July 29, 1971, Srila Prabhupada was asked by a reporter in the audience, “It seems that most of the devotees are young people, persons under thirty, under twenty-five. Why is this so? …” Srila Prabhupada responded, “Why, in the university, you'll find all the students are young boys and girls? Why?” “That's the age of education,” she said, as the realization of her own words sunk in. “That's the age of Krishna consciousness,” Srila Prabhupada reinforced, “old fools, they ...

By Vraja Bihari DasAt modern times we have some very powerful distractions that take us away from the association of devotees. Earlier we could sit for long hours with devotees and talk to them about Krishna Consciousness but nowadays we have so many electronic gadgets, and in the name of ‘utility is the principle’ or also called as ‘yuktavairagya’, we are trapped by the gadgets and go far away from Krishna and His loving devotees.

The highlight of the weekend was a maha street harinama on the Saturday night, where the devotees practically danced out of the temple and around the City Centre. By Dusyanta dasaIf there is one food that represents the fullness of the mode of goodness, the Earth, the Moon and our mother cow it has to be Ghee or mother Ghee. Many of us who experience ghee just do so by opening a tin of ghee purchased at the market store. But how many of us really think about this product and how it came to be in this tin in this form. For devotees who are aspiring to live the “simple” lifestyle influenced as much as possible by the mode of goodness then our food becomes of prime importance to healthy living. And the way it is gr...

As a result the GBC has asked three of its committees to focus on ways to speed up the selection and development process without compromising the quality of the training. These three committees are the GBC Succession Committee, the GBC Organizational Development Committee, and the GBC Appointments Committee.

By Advaita Chandra dasOur modern lives and the decisions we take on a daily basis are typically driven by three major forces - DATA (D), MONEY (M) and RIGHTS (R) - which influence and move us sometimes in very subtle ways. We search for happiness by manipulating these forces to get material sense enjoyment. Unfortunately, the happiness we experience is fleeting and disappointingly unsubstantial. Consequently, many are frustrated and angry with the status quo. And, well-being, at both individual and collective levels, has been severely compromised. What's am...

By Kesava Krsna DasaSince we are all human, we can be expected to display human social and emotional traits. On a devotee managerial and leadership level, somehow we all expect superhuman Vaisnava traits to emerge, whatever that means, and it will probably never happen. Vaisnavas are very human, but their ways and mannerism reflect a selfless nature. Devotee leadership is best undertaken by selfless devotees who exhibit selfless traits of empathy, compassion and understanding - to be broadminded. It is easy to give our own wish list for ideal management...

By Bhakti Vikas Swami"Regarding astrology, you should not listen to any of these so-called astrologers—strictly avoid. Don’t even see them. What is the use of seeing them? Astrology is meant for the materialist, but a spiritualist does not care for the future. Everything is dependent upon Krishna. So where is the necessity of astrology? "

By Ekalavya dasAs World Holy Name Week 2014 progresses from day 4 to day 5, I contemplate the supreme sacrifice made by Srila Prabhupada to take sannyasa. Sannyasa means to give up all activities not favorable to Krishna consciousness. One of the inner truths of World Holy Name Week is to put aside all activities not related to Krishna consciousness. This is an opportunity to increase our chanting and hearing. Cultivate those items favorable for the outreach effort of Krishna consciousness. And also cultivate those items favourable for the inreach effor...

By Patita Pavana das“If there were no one to control, there would be no meaning to the conception of the supreme controller (isvara), just as there is no meaning to a king without his subjects. If all the subjects became king, there would be no distinction between the king and an ordinary citizen.. Someone may argue, “Why is there a need to create the spiritual sparks?” The answer can be given in this way: Since the Absolute Personality of Godhead is omnipotent, He has both unlimited and limited potencies. This is the meaning of omnipotent. To be omnip...
