By ISKCON GBC Executive CommitteeOn behalf of the ISKCON Governing Body Commission and the entire International Society for Krishna Consciousness we, the Executive Committee of the GBC, join the chorus of tributes from around the world to honor His Grace Madhudvisa Prabhu, who departed from this world on August 5, 2014. Madhudvisa Prabhu was one of the earliest disciples of His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada and immediately applied his enthusiastic nature to the Sankirtana Movement. As a prominent figure of the original Hari-nama sankirtana groups of devotee...

By Pusta Krishna dasHe was honest and admitted how little he knew of Krishna consciousness at the time, but he served in his own infectiously happy mood. He and I spoke rather honestly and openly about our own frailties in life. He never tried to portray himself as a “big, big” self-important person. Rather, he was a salt of the earth kind of person. Very simple hearted. His place in the history of sankirtan is very well established by his own peculiar style of sankirtan chanting of the Holy Names. He was the first to chant the Holy Names very rapidly i...

By The GuardianI'm a qualified accountant, I work in Croydon at the Home Office, and people there call me Ash but at the Hare Krishna temple I'm Acyuta. I got involved with the Hare Krishna movement in my last year of uni about 10 years ago. A few monks came down, and gave a class on karma and why bad things happen to good people, and I found answers I had been looking for. I was initiated in 2007, and given a baptism name: Acyuta Charan Das.

By Indradyumna Swami"Last year," the young man continued, "I went to Woodstock and met you people there. I went to the Questions and Answers tent and listened attentively. Suddenly I had all the answers to the questions of life that I had been asking. It was as if a light had been turned on. Seriously. I wanted to buy the book that the speaker was quoting from, the Bhagavad Gita, but I had no money. I have been waiting all year to buy the Bhagavad Gita. I was so surprised to find you people in town today. In fact I just walked into this festival by chance."...

By Giriraj SwamiAll the circumstances surrounding your departure were auspicious. As was your desire, you lived through Ratha-yatra in Los Angeles and sang before all three carts. Then, just two days later, while your caregiver chanted Hare Krishna by your side, you departed—with a smile on your face. You were a great pioneer and champion of Ratha-yatra. During last year’s procession we discussed the importance of following Srila Prabhupada’s instructions in regard to Ratha-yatras, and in our last meeting in your room at New Dvaraka, six weeks ago, yo...

By Bhaktin AmyAs most devotees can attest to, not every town receives its local Hare Krishna community with arms wide open. But through Srila Prabhupada’s plan, Gainesville has proven itself to be incredibly favorable. A quiet college town, Gainesville welcomed the University of Florida (and its 102 students) in 1906. Today, UF is known as one of the nation’s top universities, enrolling 50,000 students, many of which have heard the Holy Name, associated with devotees, and taken prasadam on the UF campus since 1971. Krishna Lunch is an integral part of t...

By Hridayananda das GoswamiOne evening, the Berkeley devotees were on the third floor of our center, chanting in the temple room. Suddenly the house began to shake as if there was an earthquake. Our president asked me to go downstairs and see what was happening. I found the cause: Madhu-dvisa Prabhu and the all-brahmacari San Francisco temple had come to visit us and they were doing kirtana downstairs. Among these devotees was the famous Jayananda. The kirtana, led by Madhu-dvisa, was literally shaking a three story house.

By pukaarnewsThousands of festival-goers from all over the country pulled a massive 90ft chariot carrying the Deities of Lord Jagannatha (Krishna), his sister Subhadra, and Lord Balarama from the City Centre to Cossington Park, accompanied with music, singing, and dancing. The annual festival organised by ISKCON is the second largest festival of this type in country and has been running for 17 years. For the first time in its history the festival began at the newly acquired Hare Krishna Centre on Granby Street. To start off the procession Sir Peter Soulsb...

By Vraja Bihari DasAs a preacher/counsellor, I meet many who are disappointed in life and desperately need emotional healing. Most emotional problems in life originate in feeling a lack of deep, fulfilling relationship and a desperate want for a loving companion. Even in our temple which is over flooded with thousands of devotees, it’s possible to feel lonely; I know a few devotees who have felt lonely at some point of time in life. Besides, I myself when I stay at Borivalli for a few days in a week to write my articles, or when I travel for my preaching ...

By Dusyanta dasaThe differences between milk produced in a modern conventional setting and a cow protection project are diametric opposites. They could not be further away from each other even if they tried. And the idea of paying money in a cow protection herd for milk that they produce is one of the reasons that cow protection does not work. If we try to mix up the way modern day dairy herds operate by making money and turning milk production into a type of business then we have misunderstood the holistic principles of cow protection.

By Balimardana DasaIt is not by working hard or by accumulating wealth that one may find satisfaction in this life or the next. Rather, it is one's purity of purpose and diligence in repeating the transcendental mantra received from the bona fide spiritual master that fulfills all of one's desires. "O Brahma, do thou practice spiritual association by means of this mantra; then all your desires will be fulfilled." Sri Brahma-samhita 5.25

By Vraja Vihari DasaAs the evening arati started and the deities were greeted amidst loud chanting and the blowing of conch shells, indicating auspiciousness, Rohini Tanaya cast his last loving glance at the devotees and, while prayerfully looking upon the deities, departed from his body. Devotees cried and rejoiced simultaneously, for this was an extraordinary, inspirational departure. Devotees had witnessed that Krishna consciousness is not simply a theory but a practical science. Rohini Tanaya had just shown by his example how a devotee fixed in Krishna c...
